Welcoming our new citizens
Twenty-five new citizens made their Australian Citizenship pledge on Norwood Oval in front of passionate Redlegs and Crows supporters on Saturday 10 June.
Welcomed by SANFL Patron and Governor of South Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le, the new citizens hailed from nine countries including Colombia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, Nepal, the Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Thailand, represented nine families and included ten children.
With the ceremony forming part of the SANFL’s Multicultural Round, the new citizens and their guests were treated to watching the Redlegs take on the Crows following the ceremony.
“Australian Rules Football has long been a vehicle for bringing people together, so conducting a citizenship ceremony as part of the SANFL’s Multicultural Round was an ideal way of welcoming new citizens from such diverse backgrounds,” said Mayor Robert Bria.
“The multicultural roots of our City’s history are important and something which we want to continue to nurture for our future generations.”
“I’d like to thank the Norwood Football Club and the SANFL for joining together with us to mark our shared values of celebrating and respecting our multicultural community.
