Welcome to the 2018 Excellence in Urban Design Awards.
Nominations for the 2018 Excellence in Urban Design Awards have now closed.
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is inviting design professionals and the general community to nominate locally responsive property developments and renovations which exhibit design excellence and improve the quality of our built environment.
The Excellence in Urban Design Awards have been established to inspire better building design by promoting community awareness and acknowledging the significant contribution architects and designers make to the liveability of our city.
Eligible entries include newly built or renovated homes and commercial properties completed within the Council area between the period of 2 March 2016 - 11 March 2018.

Eligible entries include newly built or renovated homes and commercial properties completed within the Council area between 2 March 2016 - 11 March 2018.
- Best Residential Development (includes newly built properties, alterations and additions)
- Best Commercial Development (including newly built properties, alterations and additions).
The Awards are bestowed on renovations and developments which exhibit an exceptionally high standard of excellence in design and execution.
Best Residential Development
This award category recognises the best overall residential development.
Eligible developments include new dwellings, additions to existing dwellings or multiple dwelling projects.
Best Commercial Development
This award category recognises the many non-residential and mixed developments that occur within the city.
Eligible developments include both public and private buildings, such as warehouses, shops, offices, showrooms and workshops.
This award will be presented to the development which has received the greatest number of votes from the general community.
Members of the community can choose from any of the developments which have been nominated for the above two award categories and will only be able to vote once.
Panel of judges
This year’s awards will be judged by a panel of industry experts comprising:
- Peter Dungey, sole practitioner architect and urban designer
- David Brown of BB Architects
- Dimitty Andersen of Grieve Gillett Andersen
- Council’s General Manager of Urban Planning & Environment, Carlos Buzetti.

People’s Choice Award winners.
The 2018 Excellence in Urban Design Award winners will gain invaluable market exposure and industry peer recognition by having their project profiled in the July 2018 print edition of the Council’s biannual publication Look East, distributed to over 20,000 city residents and visitors.
The winner of the People's Choice Award prize draw will receive locally handcrafted glassware by Thomas Yeend Design, to the value of $250.
The winners will be announced at an exclusive awards night to be held at creative retail hub, Brick + Mortar
