Swimming Centres

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters offers residents, their families and friends, a choice of two local aquatic facilities. The Norwood and Payneham Swimming Centres offer a healthy environment for aquatic recreation, fitness and fun. Swimming classes and swimming clubs are available at both centres.

Norwood Swimming Centre

The Norwood Pool, located just off The Parade at Phillips Street, Kensington, celebrates 50 years in 2006. And if you haven't yet visited this local landmark then come October 2006 would be a great time to do so as the celebratory atmosphere takes hold.

This classic 1950s swimming centre is 'a classic Australian local pool'. It offers that great combination of a superb setting and a relaxing atmosphere.

If you are a lap swimmer or recreational swimmer there's usually plenty of room. The pool is a great venue for families, group BBQs or birthday parties - with a shaded/heated toddlers' pool, and heated 50 metre main pool with diving board - everyone is catered for. Come and enjoy the peaceful ambience that abounds in this rivergum-shaded swimming centre - it's a great place to relax on those long hot Adelaide summer days.

The Friends of Norwood Pool - a community based incorporated body of local citizens and pool users, formed in early 2004 to support and maintain the "Norwood Outdoor Pool" - as it is affectionately known by the Friends. This passionate and committed group aims to:

• provide a voice for the ongoing welfare, care and development of the Norwood Pool;
• encourage new users;
• provide social events for pool users;
• facilitate contact between the users, the staff and the Council.

Payneham Swimming Centre

The Payneham Swimming Centre offers 3 heated pools with generous shade protection. The 8 lane, Olympic size 50 metre pool offers ample room for lap swimming and the learners and toddler's pools provide the perfect place for children to build up their confidence in water. There are also shower and bathroom facilities and a kiosk.

Swimming Lessons

Private swimming lessons for adults and children are conducted at both centres throughout summer. Vacswim classes are also held at both pools during January.

Pro-Swim also runs lessons at the Payneham Swimming Centre for Babies, Children and Adults. They specialise in running beginners lessons with a focus on achieving safety, confidence and balance in the water.
