Cr Evonne Moore
Living in Maylands for over 30 years, I appreciate the historic and heritage residential parts of our Council area, as well as its garden suburbs. I am impressed by the strong community spirit of our residents, and the work which our local community groups carry out.
I have a Diploma of Teaching, an Honours Arts Degree and a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies. I have worked as a secretary, school-teacher, public servant and tutor.
I am passionate about protecting our built heritage and the desired character of our residential suburbs. For several years I served as a spokeswoman for the St. Peters Residents Association which tries to help residents and keeps a watchful eye on Council. My past experience as a local councillor includes serving on the former St. Peters Council in the 1990s, and on our current Council.
I oppose the long-term destruction of our character garden suburbs to make way for endless urban infill housing. My greatest immediate concerns are new houses being built without back-gardens, SA Power Networks butchering our street trees, and the State government stripping planning powers from local councils to stifle residents’ concerns about new development.
I work as a volunteer for several community groups including Friends of the Billabong, the Nature Education Centre and Neighbourhood Watch. I worked for Save our Suburbs for many years. I have worked at Cats Assistance to Sterilise on cat desexing projects.
My favourite pastimes include spending time with my partner Ian, reading, gardening, dog-walking and soaking up TV crime shows.
