Raising the Bar in Norwood Payneham & St Peters

28/06/2018

In a first for South Australia, the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters will host the event ‘Raising the Bar Adelaide' for one night only, on Tuesday 7 August.

Founded in New York City by students of New York University and Columbia University, ‘Raising the Bar’ is a global award-winning event series which turns pubs into classrooms by combining education and popular culture.

"On 7 August, our city will become one big campus with academics from our three biggest universities and other notable speakers giving talks at different pubs and bars in the council area," said Mayor Robert Bria.

"This event is a great opportunity to listen to experts talk about topics ranging from art to culture, science to technology, sociology to philosophy, while enjoying a drink or two."

"Council is grateful that so many local pubs and bars have put their hand up to be a part of this exciting event."

There will be 20 free talks across 10 venues throughout the City on the night. Each venue will hold two different sessions – one at 6.30pm and the second at 8.30pm.

Participating venues are:

  • Alma Tavern
  • Britannia Hotel
  • Little Bang Brewing Co
  • Maylands Hotel
  • The Republic
  • The Robin Hood
  • Stone’s Throw
  • The Bath Hotel
  • The Colonist
  • The Maid

‘Raising the Bar’ events have previously been held in New York City, San Francisco, London, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Sydney.

The event is free but tickets will be essential. Tickets will be available from 11 July via the official Raising the Bar website: www.rtbevent.com./adelaide
