Raising the Bar Adelaide returns for another thought-provoking evening of fun and knowledge

13/09/2021

The award-winning and thought-provoking event, Raising the Bar, is set to enlighten and entertain once again as it returns to the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters next month.

Ten of the City’s best bars and pubs will be transformed into knowledge hubs for people who want to be challenged and inspired, while enjoying a drink, a fun night out with friends and delicious food.

The 20 speakers will be discussing a range of absorbing subjects including euthanasia, health and fitness, empowering children, reducing homelessness, the damaging effects of video gaming, the changing landscape of media, reporting on victims of crime, domestic violence, sport, fitness, legalising sex work and much more.

Mayor Robert Bria said the Council was absolutely thrilled to be able to host the highly anticipated event once again on Tuesday, 12 October.

“This year’s speakers cover a range of current issues and curious and fascinating topics that are sure to pique everyone’s interests,” Mayor Bria said.

“One of the challenging parts of Raising the Bar Adelaide 2021 will be deciding who to see and in what pub. The calibre of this year’s guests is exceptional.”

The Advertiser’s Chief Court Reporter Sean Fewster and Change Management Consultant, Daniel Panozzo are the co-creators and co-hosts of the Just Lawful Podcast.

During their talk – at The Alma – they will be focussing on the importance of ensuring the stories from victims-of-crime are heard and understood.

“The Council is also very excited to have the ABC’s Drive Program host, Julian Schiller, talking about changes to mainstream media, while Dr Kim Le will be sharing his wisdom and advice about the dark side of video gaming,” Mayor Bria said.

“On a lighter note, best-selling author of Run Fit, Nick Muxlow, will keep you on your toes with his talk about improving your running style.

“Dr Scott Zarcinas will offer insight into how to overcome writer’s block, while Dr Nigel Rogasch will focus on boosting memory.”

There will also be talks on nutrition, the evolution of the universe and learning to live pain free following an injury.

Raising the Bar is a COVID safe event and therefore seating may be limited for some talks to ensure physical distancing requirements are met.

Raising the Bar is a global event series which began in New York and aims to make education a part of popular culture in cities across the world, with Adelaide now sitting alongside Hong Kong, London and Sydney.

Raising the Bar Adelaide was first held in the City of Norwood, Payneham & St Peters in 2018.

Last year, our City was the only destination in the world to host a live and in person event, as many other cities battled with the COVID-pandemic.

Tickets to Raising the Bar talks are free and bookings are essential.
