Council endorses final concept design for Beulah Road Bicycle Boulevard

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters has endorsed the Final Concept Design for the Beulah Road Bicycle Boulevard.

A preferred Design Concept for the Beulah Road Bicycle Boulevard was endorsed by the Council and released for community consultation in March 2016.

The Final Concept Design, which was presented to the Council at its 6 June meeting, addresses the comments and feedback which resulted from the community consultation phase of the Project.

Mayor Robert Bria said that the Council is committed to encouraging cycling as an alternative method of transport and is pleased to be able to put in place infrastructure which supports this objective.

“The Council’s Strategic Management Plan, CityPlan 2030, sets out objectives and strategies for creating a people-friendly, integrated and sustainable transport network which promotes the use of alternative transport to motor vehicles,” said Mayor Bria.

“The development of designs for a Bicycle Boulevard along Beulah Road is a key infrastructure action within the Council’s City-Wide Cycling Plan and implementing this significant Project sends a clear signal to our community that the Council is supportive of alternative forms of transport and providing safe and accessible facilities for cyclists,” he said.

Beulah Road, Norwood, is the first of the Bicycle Boulevards to be progressed for implementation, as the highest priority route used by cyclists and aligning with adjoining Local Government areas’ priorities for cycling accessibility and State Government objectives for connectivity and safety for cyclists in the east.

The Council has made an ‘in-principle’ allocation of $500,000 in its Draft 2016-2017 Budget for the implementation of the Project and will be applying for external funding from the State Government’s Greenways and Bicycle Boulevard Fund.
