Educational Establishments Review DPA

29/11/2017

Feedback closed 9 February 2018.

Schools DPA Flyer Map 2The Council is undertaking a Development Plan Amendment (DPA) to change the zoning and policies that apply to schools (primary and secondary) and adult education facilities.

Submissions are now invited from members of the community, government agencies, schools, landowners and residents.

This feedback will be valuable in considering further amendments to the DPA and in finalising the planning policy.

What is proposed

The Council has reviewed all of its existing zoning applicable to the 16 educational establishments which are located within the Council area. Currently these schools are located within 10 separate zones and 17 different policy areas.

The DPA proposes to introduce standardised zoning and policies affecting educational establishments to provide up to date and consistent policies for the assessment of future development of schools across the Council area. Specifically, the DPA proposes a new Community Zone covering all of these school sites.

The proposed rezoning is mostly confined to school sites and some additional land owned by schools. However, there are some isolated examples of where privately owned allotments are being included as part of the rezoning process.
