Zest for Life Concert: Featuring Will Metzer six piece Jazz Band

Cost: $10

With an International performance background of over 15 years, Will Metzer has performed in over 40 countries worldwide in festivals, hotels, pubs and clubs.

His raspy seductive vocals hint of Sinatra and Harry Connick Jnr whilst providing the vocal dexterity of Elvis, The Beatles, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole and Tom Jones to name a few.

Parliament House Tour

Meet the Premier and enjoy a guided tour with Parliamentary staff.

Come along and learn about the layout of the building, the law-making process, the stunning Parliament Research Library, structure and procedural elements of Parliament, as well as the participatory and historical elements.

Find out more about women’s voting rights in South Australia; and enjoy the stunning portrait artistry and sculptures of prominent historical political figures.

The Tour also includes a visit to Old Parliament House to look at the original home of the Legislative Council (and House of Assembly from 1857).

Award winning garden (guided tours)

Do you want an award-winning garden? Learn from best!

Rita and her late husband spent 50 years beautifying their garden while planting, harvesting and bottling their own tomatoes and wine.

The garden was the Residential Award winner of the 2020 Sustainable Garden Awards

Come along and see first-hand this sustainable garden, learn how to save on water costs, control weeds and meet the resident chickens!

Award winning garden 2018 (virtual tour)

Join Alan Shepard as he ‘walks’ you through his magnificent garden (winner of the Council’s 2018 Sustainable Garden Award).

Designed to be sustainable, relaxing and pleasant, the garden has ponds, fruit trees, vegetables and herbs to attract beneficial insects and repel pests.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens guided tours

Cost: $2 donation (on the day to the Friends of the Botanic Gardens of Adelaide)

In the heart of the city but another world away - enjoy a guided tour with a Friend of the Botanic Gardens Volunteer.

Explore the beauty and diversity of plants from across Australia and around the world.

Op Shop Bus tour

Cost: $5

Op shops are around almost every corner in our City.

They are brimming with the most fabulous fashion, books, antiques and other rarities.

Join us for a morning of retail therapy (minus the expense!) as we visit a number of local op shops to bag a bargain and support those who are most in need.

St Peters Billabong guided tours

Cost: free

Not only is the St Peters Billabong a hidden gem and a haven for native wildlife, it is also recognised as an urban biodiversity hotspot on the Adelaide Plains as well as a wonderfully tranquil and beautiful place to visit. It is also home to the Council’s first native bee hotel!

These tours will be led by the very knowledgeable Friends of the Billabong members.

Visit Mount Lofty Botanic Garden and Stirling

Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is the perfect place to lose yourself, reconnect with nature and enjoy its beauty and serenity.

There’s always something new to discover at the Garden sprawling across 97 hectares.

No matter if you’re a botanical novice or a plant expert, you’ll be fascinated and intrigued by the amazing floral diversity and dramatic hillside setting of Mount Lofty Botanic Garden.

Following the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden Bus Tour, we will visit Stirling for a Coffee Break (1hr) before returning to Norwood Town Hall.

How scientists are targeting the biology of ageing for a healthy life

Do you want to learn more about human ageing?

Preconceptions that ageing is an unavoidable and negative part of our biological process are now being challenged as research shows that the ageing process is more flexible than most of us appreciate.

Dr Tim Sargeant - who leads a scientific research team at the South Australian Medical Research Institute—will discuss the biology of ageing, and the research being undertaken to better understand
how to age well.

Introduction to Japanese Calligraphy - Shodo  書道

Free event

'Shodo' in Japanese means Way of Writing.

Presenter, Emiko Mayer, started calligraphy at the age of six in Kyoto, Japan and qualified to teach Calligraphy before she moved to Australia.

Learn about the important basics and different types of brush strokes. Those strokes form three kinds of Japanese characters used today, Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana.

Participants will practice writing words of their choice and work on ways to display their work.

Movies at the Library - Never too Late
