The Development Act 1993, requires that all Councils within South Australia prepare and adopt a building inspection policy.
The Council’s Building Officers conduct random and scheduled building inspections on previously approved developments.The inspections are undertaken to ensure that the applicant has complied with their development authorisation, relevant approved construction practices, standards and codes, including any conditions of consent.
The Council’s building inspection policy specifies:
- the levels of audit inspections to be carried out by the Council on an annual basis with respect to building work within its area (including work assessed by private certifiers) involving classes of buildings prescribed by the regulations
- the criteria that is applied with respect to selecting the buildings that are to be inspected under the policy.
