Working across the disciplines of drawing and painting, sometimes supplemented by sculpture, Madeleine Coates explores the tension between things as they exist and as they are remembered. Her practice draws upon personal experience as mediated by time, memory, and emotion: using imagery taken from her own environment and encounters, she creates atmospheric compositions that strive to reconcile the real and the recalled.

Madeleine is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Visual Art at Adelaide Central School of Art, where she has participated in several exhibitions of student work.
