The Council has engaged Tonkin Consulting to undertake its Stepney Maylands Evandale Local Area Traffic Management Study (LATM Study).

The key objective of the LATM Study is to identify and address issues which exist within the Study Area associated with traffic management and safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists. These issues include number of vehicles, speeds, cut-through movements and crashes.

The LATM Study does not include on-street parking as the Council is undertaking a City-Wide Parking Review as a separate project.

Study Stages

The LATM Study is being delivered in two community consultation stages. The timeline below contains a summary of the Study Stages.

LATM Study Timeline

  • Stage 1

    Completed

Members of the community, including residents, property and business owners, were invited to assist in identifying the key issues which needed to be considered and addressed. More than 400 written submissions were received.

An analysis of the Stage 1 consultation results, as well as the various traffic data which was collated from the Study Area, is currently being undertaken and will guide the development of a Draft Local Area Traffic Management Report (the draft Report).

The draft Report will set out the key issues which have been identified and recommend strategies to address these issues. Completion of the draft Report is expected by the end of June 2018.

  • Stage 2

    Completed

    Community Consultation (16 July - 6 August 2018).

This round of consultation will invite residents, property and business owners and members of the community to provide comments on the draft Report.

These comments will guide the development of the final Report, which is expected to be presented to the Council for endorsement in late 2018.

  • Stage 3: Implementation

    Completed

    Final report completed.

Council endorsed a proposal to reduce the speed limit between Portrush Road, Payneham Road and Magill Road (not inclusive of arterial roads) at its meeting on Monday 1 April 2019.

The Council's application for the introduction of the 40kph speed limit was approved by the Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government.

  • Project Completion

    In progress

As agreed with SAPOL, the 40kph speed limit will come into effect on Monday 21 October 2019.

Installation of signage will commence on 8 October 2019 and conclude by Friday 18 October 2019.
