The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters hosts citizenship ceremonies throughout the year to welcome new citizens into the community.
Changes to Citizenship Ceremonies during COVID-19 conditions
Due to COVID-19 conditions it is not possible for traditional, in-person citizenship ceremonies to be held.
The Federal Government is trialling one-on-one citizenship ceremonies via a secure video link for those already approved for Australian Citizenship, with alternative arrangements to be made for those who can not access the internet.
Citizenship applications will remain open during this period but interviews and tests have been put on hold.
People who were scheduled to attend a Citizenship appointment or ceremony over the coming months will be contacted to make alternative arrangements.
For further information, visit: Department of Home Affairs or call the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880.
Becoming a citizen
All applications for Australian citizenship are processed by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

Once your Australian Citizenship application has been approved, you will be invited by the Department to attend your ceremony.
While the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters hosts citizenship ceremonies, the Council is unable to provide information regarding the timing of your ceremony.
If you have not received an invitation to attend a citizenship ceremony, you will need to call the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880.
Please note: If you are unable to attend a scheduled ceremony please contact the Department of Home Affairs to reschedule. On rare occasions the Department may be able to arrange a private ceremony.
The Council is unable to conduct a private ceremony without the official approval and documentation from the Department of Home Affairs.
All upcoming ceremonies have been cancelled until further notice due to COVID-19 conditions. We appreciate your understanding as we work together to slow the spread of COVID-19.
