Message from Mayor Bria on International Volunteer Day

05/12/2023

On behalf of the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, I would like to thank every Volunteer wherever they may live on International Volunteer Day.

The theme for International Volunteer Day 2023 is "If everyone did..."

Every day across the world, hundreds of millions of people are generously giving their skills, knowledge and time, in causes large and small, seeking neither recognition or reward.

In the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, there are 220 Volunteers who work tirelessly in a range of roles in our City and I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank each of you for helping to make our community a better place to live, work and visit.

Volunteering is not just an offer to lend a hand, it is an invitation to join hands.

Because when we join hands, whether it is to give help or offer hope, we are giving a part of ourselves to our friends, our neighbours, and our community.

But more than that; we are recognising that while some things can be do alone, other things can only happen when people goodwill work together, each of us contributing our own patch to what the Reverend Jesse Jackson Jr. referred to as the “great quilt of unity.”

On this International Volunteer Day, let’s not only thank our Volunteers but consider becoming one yourself.

By joining the ranks of those who selflessly serve in different ways - but all with a view to make the life of others in need worth living - we too can find that the gift of receiving is truly in the giving.

My sincere thanks and best wishes to every Volunteer not just in our City, but all over the world.

Robert Bria, Mayor
