Ewa Skoczynska is interested in articulating ideas with integrity and humour; with this in mind, she has experimented with the ubiquitous paper bag. Despite being such humble objects bags have marvellous qualities, they come in an enormous variety of sizes, colours (50 shades of buff), some have colourful graphics on them whilst others are rather plain. Sometimes they develop a soft crumpled texture, and others remain firm and glossy.

Bags have been machine stitched, glued, folded and painted, inspired by the Dadaists. Words are cut from bags and rearranged, thereby changing their context and meaning. In the words of the artist, “It really is rather like playing a surrealist word game which greatly amuses me.”
