Join us for 1 or all 4 Exploring Digital Programs with Catalyst Games!

Discover the world of game development through this hands-on series designed for young people aged 11–17. Across four workshops, participants will explore game design, programming, 3D modelling and game development using industry-standard tools.

Whether you’re completely new to digital game development or looking to build on your existing skills, there’s something to explore. No prior experience is required, and all equipment is supplied.

All workshops run from 12:00pm–4:00pm with a break for BYO lunch.

Workshop 1: Paper Prototyping

Sunday 15 November

Learn the core concepts of game development while building and enhancing game mechanics and game loops in a fun, offline and low-pressure environment.

Workshop 2: Unity Fundamentals

Sunday 29 November

Learn how to use industry-standard tools like the Unity Game Engine to create games and VFX. This workshop is suitable for participants with no background in Unity or programming experience, with tips and best practices also provided for more advanced users.

Workshop 3: Art in Blender

Saturday 6 February 

Learn the basics of Blender, a 3D modelling tool used to create animations, cinematics, 3D printable models and assets for VFX and game projects. Create 3D models to use in your digital projects and learn how to import and implement them in Unity.

Workshop 4: Game Design in Unity

Saturday 20 February

Explore the fundamentals of game design in Unity, including programming, player agency, core game loops and level design. Participants will create and test their own levels before taking home an executable build to play with family and friends.
