The Council’s 2019-2024 Dog and Cat Management Plan guides how the Council approaches the management of dogs and cats in the City.

One of the objectives of the plan is to educate the community about responsible pet ownership and the broad range of dog and cat ownership requirements.

The data collected through this survey will be used as a baseline from which the Council will measure the impact of the education campaign.

From 1 July 2018, the State Government introduced new legislative requirements around registration, microchipping and desexing.

Answer the following questions to the best of your knowledge:

Dog registrations must be done online through the Dogs and Cats Online (‘DACO’) statewide database. required
How often do you need to register your dog? required
Only dogs need to be microchipped, and not cats. required
All dogs and cats born after 1 July 2018 must be de-sexed once they are 6 months old. required

Dogs must be kept on-leash in all public places, unless designated as a Dog Off-Leash Area.

How many Dog-Off Leash Areas are located within the Council area? required

Dogs must kept under effective control at all times in public places.
