Category: Stormwater drainage network

Marian Road between Glynburn Road and Hampden Street was identified as a high priority area in the Council’s City-wide Floodplain Mapping and Long Term Drainage Program.

As a result, a detailed design was commissioned for the reconstruction of the roundabout and drainage network.

To resolve the excessive surface runoff and flooding issues, the works involve the reconstruction and re-alignment of the Marian Road Roundabout, incorporating a new drainage network and water sensitive urban design.

Project details

MLEI Design Consultants were engaged by Council to undertake a detailed design for the project.

The design incorporates water sensitive urban design to capture and re-distribute surface runoff directly into localised rain gardens and treenet inlets.

Works for this project included:

  • reconstruction of Marian Road/Hampden Street roundabout
  • pavement reconstruction
  • installation of new drainage network
  • construction of raingardens and landscaping works
  • upgrades to existing Marian Road/Avenue Road roundabout.

The project commenced in June 2021 and was completed in September 2021.
