Young Achievers Program (YAP)
The Young Achievers Program celebrates the achievements of young people in sport, academia, art, culture and leadership.
The program supports young people aged 10–18 who live in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters to:
- Represent South Australia in national or international competitions or events, or
- Participate in an approved leadership development program
Approved funding categories include sport, academia, art and leadership development. Examples include the YMCA Youth Parliament, Mathletics or sporting competitions.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be aged 10–18 at the time of the event, competition or program
- Live in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters
- Be representing the state or country in a competition/event or participating in an approved development program
- Apply before the event (retrospective applications will not be accepted).

Selection of recipients
The Young Achievers Program demonstrates how modest grants can have transformative impact – helping local young people explore their passions and develop as future leaders.
Akshaya – Junior Parliament
Participated in the YMCA Junior Parliament Program.
- Contributed to drafting a bill focused on intergenerational activities between aged care residents and kindergartens
- Gained confidence, leadership experience and valuable networks
- Strengthened her commitment to advocating for social change.
Supported by a $150 grant from the Young Achievers Program.
Binghan – Robotics
Represented Australia at the FIRST Robotics Championship in Houston, Texas.
- Competed with team Koalafied 6996# against students from over 10 countries
- Visited NASA’s Johnson Space Centre, including astronaut training facilities and the Saturn V rocket
- Engaged with global innovators such as MIT, Harvard, BAE Systems and HAAS.
Supported by a $500 grant from the Young Achievers Program.
Isabelle – Ice hockey
Competed at the Phillip Ginsberg 13U National Ice Hockey Championship in New South Wales.
- Represented South Australia at an elite national level
- Gained valuable experience, skills, and connections within the ice hockey community
- Acknowledged the program’s support in helping her pursue her sporting pathway.
Supported by a $250 grant from the Young Achievers Program.
Jack – Soccer
Participated in the COPA Toreros International Soccer Tournament in Tokyo.
- Represented Australia in a competitive international setting
- Learned resilience and respect through Japanese sportsmanship traditions
- Inspired to bring discipline and kindness into his own sporting journey
Supported by a $500 grant from the Young Achievers Program.
Katarina Czechowicz
18 day exchange to the United Kingdom through Australian Air Force Cadets
Visited organisations including Gulfstream, Rolls Royce, multiple Royal Air Force bases and more.
Rewarding aspects includes building friendships with participants from several different countries, collaborating across cultures and undertaking leadership roles within an international team which strengthened Katarina’s communication skills and reinforced the importance of global collaboration.
Received $500 in YAP funding.
