A new Emu Crossing is proposed on Briar Road adjacent to Felixstow Primary School to improve safety for school children.

Project details

The Briar Road emu crossing is a part-time road crossing that will operate when children are arriving and leaving the Felixstow Primary School grounds.

Emu crossings feature white road markings and orange ‘CHILDREN CROSSING’ flags displayed on red and white posts.

The project will include:

  • An upgrade of the existing pedestrian kerb ramps to an Emu Crossing on Briar Road
  • Changes to parking control to facilitate pedestrian sight lines at the crossing (see below).

Parking changes for emu crossing construction

To facilitate the construction of the emu crossing, two on-street car parking bays will be permanently removed.

Implementing an emu crossing at this location will improve safety for children attending Felixstow Primary School and their families.

Background

Felixstow Primary School and members of the community approached the Council regarding school safety concerns on Briar Road.

The Council subsequently undertook an investigation and safety review, and following consultation with the school, the current Emu Crossing design is now being proposed.

The Council is also in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport's Way2Go program to facilitate these improvements.
