$24 million Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre revamp

The Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre will be transformed into an exciting aquatic park for swimmers, families and the wider community.

The Council will be investing $16.5 million in 2022–2023. This is in addition to the Council’s $500,000 investment last financial year.

Once completed the total investment in the state-of-the art facility will be in the order of $24 million with $5.6 million contributed from the State Government.

This redevelopment includes:

  • two new pools (including a 50m pool and all season 25 metre pool)
  • high platform waterslides
  • water play areas
  • disability access ramps to facilitate the increased use of the existing facilities, as well as supporting greater independence for all patrons.

Mayor Robert Bria said the redevelopment will also boost the local economy by creating jobs and a direct spend on construction.

“While the Centre is much-loved, it is also desperately in need of major work, having been constructed in 1968,” Mayor Bria said.

“This investment will make a huge difference to people who use the centre making it even more popular given the exciting new features, including the high platform waterslides.”

The inclusion of disability access ramps will facilitate the increased use of the existing facilities as well “as support greater independence for all patrons.”

The Swimming Centre will be completed for the 2023-2024 swimming season.
