A Day of Fashion - style, education and entertainment - on The Parade

26/09/2022

The Parade, Norwood, already has the enviable reputation as Adelaide’s premier shopping destination and next month this will be even more apparent when the Council hosts A Day of Fashion.

A Day of Fashion – on Saturday 15 October – features a clothing swap event, in-store shopping offers and experiences, live entertainment, a special movie screening and an industry panel discussion.

The industry discussion - In Conversation With… Fashion Talk – will be facilitated by Stacey Pallaras as she invites researchers and advocates Erin Skinner, Kyla Raby and Josie McKenzie.

Miss Skinner, who is a PhD researcher into Sustainable Fashion said the audience can expect to learn more about the future of Australian fashion from an environmental point of view.

“Engaging in discussions with experts and fashion lovers alike can cultivate a really empowering environment to bring an understanding of the impacts of the fashion industry and the solutions that are available,” Miss Skinner said.

Anti-slavery researcher and practitioner, Kyla Raby, said the fashion industry is one of the most significant industries in the global economy.

“Sadly, it’s also one of the biggest exploiters of workers. Everyone has a role to play in preventing those who make our clothes from being exploited,” Ms Raby said.

A Day of Fashion will also feature a Sip & Swap Clothing Exchange and to cap off the day’s events, there is a special screening of House of Gucci at Hoyts Cinema Complex, also on The Parade.

National co-ordinator of the Clothing Exchange, Kirsten Fredericks, said “looking good, shouldn’t cost the earth.”

“Swapping is a clever and thrifty way to update your wardrobe without hitting the shops and maxxing out your credit card. It saves you pennies and the planet too."

A Day of Fashion 2022 is the Council’s annual fashion event and visitors can expect The Parade to be brimming with activities, activations and discounts for shoppers of all ages, while catering for all styles.
