Growing the importance of sustainable gardens in NPSP

27/09/2022

The 2022 Sustainable Garden Awards celebrate and recognise the importance and prevalence of sustainable gardening and landscaping in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.

With nominations now open, Acting Chief Executive Lisa Mara says: “The Council’s Sustainable Garden Awards aim to foster community awareness and interest in the importance of sustainable gardens and landscapes in our City.”

The Sustainable Garden Awards is open to all residents, businesses, schools and community groups who have a sustainable story to share.

“Any garden or landscaped area located within the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters which contributes to the quality of our environment and well-being is eligible to nominate,” Ms Mara added.

Nominations are sought for a range of categories and assessed against criteria including design, innovation, greening, water sensitive urban design, biodiversity and habitat, self-sufficiency, waste
management and nature play.

“A biennial initiative of the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, the Awards not only showcase gardens which positively contribute to the environment and well-being of our community, but also includes a series of free, informative and fun workshops, webinars and tours,” Ms Mara said.

The Sustainable Garden workshops and tours will include a Native Plant Giveaway, Guided walks and Along the River event. All workshops and tours are free but bookings are essential.

“Join one of our workshops and tours for inspiration, tips and tricks to establish your own sustainable garden,” Ms Mara added.

Nominations for the Sustainable Garden Awards will be open until 28 October 2022, and can be submitted online at www.npsp.sa.gov.au/sga

Judging is undertaken by an expert panel with the winners of each category being awarded a prize (which includes garden supplies and a professional photo shoot of them and their garden) at an awards ceremony.
