Heatwaves, floods, droughts, dying marine life — extreme weather isn't just making headlines, it's hitting closer to home than ever before.
Scientists agree that human-induced greenhouse gas emissions have made extreme weather events more frequent and more intense than at any point in recorded history, and South Australia's recent two-year drought (2023–2025) was the driest on record, hammering agriculture and fuelling more frequent extreme heat.
Just offshore, a winter marine heatwave triggered a devastating algal bloom along much of our coastline, killing enormous numbers of sea creatures, affecting industry and community alike.
Adelaide University’s Professor John Boland will unpack what's driving these events, what the science tells us about our future, and — importantly — what we can do to be more resilient.
Come along for an accessible, eye-opening hour that connects the dots between global climate change and what's already happening in our own backyard.
