Hi, everyone.

I'm Mayor Robert Bria.

Trees are one of our City's most appealing and valuable environmental features.

Not only are they the lungs of our community, bringing cooler temperatures in the summer, but they also provide beauty
to our streets and habitat for birds and animals to sustain local biodiversity.

There are more than 20,000 street trees in the City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters with 7,000 trees in parks and reserves.

However, some suburbs, such as St Morris where I'm standing here today, are on the Council's high priority list, where more trees need to be planted.

In an important step to ensuring the establishment, protection and longevity of our trees, last night, the Council adopted its first ever Tree Strategy.

The strategy serves as the blueprint to guide the management, forward planning, planting and maintenance of all Council owned trees over the next five years.

The Council has committed to increasing its tree coverage by 20% by 2045, with a particular focus on suburbs with the low levels of tree coverage.

Importantly, the Strategy has set a target of planting 500 street trees this year. To find out more about the Strategy, please visit the Council's website.
