This workshop will explore how paint can exist beyond the canvas and frame. Guided by artist Katey Smoker, participants will work with acrylic skins, experimenting with surface and texture, learning ways to reshape and reuse dried paint through peeling and layering. The process will enable and encourage a fresh look at what a painting can be and asks the participant to consider the capabilities of paint as more than just a two dimensional medium.

Each participant will create at least two acrylic paint skins, one of which will be displayed in a unique ‘participants exhibition’, alongside Katey’s solo exhibition, Unsettled, in the Gallery at St Peters Town Hall as part of the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2026.
