Our Civic Recognition Program recognises the achievements and contributions of individuals, groups and organisations.

Australia Day Awards - KRAThe Council’s Civic Recognition Program recognises outstanding achievements, voluntary contributions and significant milestones of members of the community, local groups and/or organisations and businesses. 

The Civic Recognition Policy sets out the forms of civic recognition which are provided by the Council and enable the Council to make open and transparent decisions about how civic recognition is determined and provided to the community.

Civic Recognition is provided in various ways including Australia Day Awards, Civic Receptions and Mayor’s Business Commendation Awards

Australia Day Awards (Citizen of the Year Awards)

The Citizen of the Year Awards are presented by the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters in conjunction with the Australia Day Council of SA.

The Awards reward and recognise individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year, and/or given an outstanding service over a number of years, to a local community over and above normal employment duties.

Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and well-being of a community.

The Awards are presented each year at the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters Australia Day Celebrations on January 26.

Civic Receptions

Civic receptions are held for community groups, schools or community organisations located within the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, that are celebrating 10, 15, 20, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150+ years.

If you qualify for a civic reception please forward a letter to the Mayor with information about your community group, school or community organisation and how long it’s been operating.

Council staff will contact  you to confirm the relevant details (such as date, time and location) The reception will be catered with cocktail food and drinks and will usually take place within a Council facility.

Mayor’s Business Commendation Awards

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is full of small business success stories.

The Mayor’s Business Commendation Awards recognise small businesses that contribute to our City’s unique cosmopolitan lifestyle and sense-of-place, which makes our City so liveable.

The commendations are open to small businesses* that have been operating in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters for a minimum of 10 years.
