The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is an inner eastern metropolitan Council, nestled on the outskirts of the Adelaide CBD. The area enjoys a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most desirable places to live, work, study and visit. An exciting and rare opportunity is now available for the right candidate to join our award-winning team as an experienced Coordinator, Place Activation & Economy.


The Role

Working closely with the staff in the Marketing & Place Management Unit, you will deliver a place-based approach to ensuring the delivery of business, cultural, economic and environmental components of main streets, centres and business precincts within the City.

Critical to this role is establishing working relationships with property and business owners within the City’s business sector, as well as with other Units across the organisation, to initiate and deliver a range of place making activities that are creative, innovative, culturally enriching and which support the City’s economy and build on the City’s economic base.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading, coordinating and managing the strategy and planning for the delivery of complex business attraction and expansion programs and initiatives
• Working with the property and business owners in the City’s main streets to develop strong working relationships, develop plans and place activation initiatives which create vibrant places and spaces
• Investigating and identifying future trends and opportunities in business, event, marketing and promotion and provide expert advice
• Identifying funding and partnership opportunities and manage budgets and projects
• Overseeing the establishment and ongoing maintenance of a database of all businesses within the City
• Monitoring and reporting on the outcomes of place activation strategies and recommend opportunities for improvement


About You

You will have a demonstrated passion to create change and drive an economic development and activation; have an exceptional ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders; have excellent project management, communications and engagement skills; and you will bring a flexible, adaptive and strategic approach to your work.

Key skills required for this role:

• Experience in business, developing business relationships, retail, marketing or related fields with a record of achieving positive outcomes
• Understanding of what circular economy means in a local government context and knowledge of relevant programs/policies/legislation at local, state and federal government levels
• Demonstrated engagement, collaboration and interpersonal skills and experience, with the ability to negotiate and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• High level of self-motivation, initiative and passion for business development and creating vibrant local economies.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to prepare advice and reports
• Qualification in business management, urban planning, economics, marketing, or similar field will be highly regarded
