The Council & the ELT
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is an inner eastern metropolitan Council, nestled on the outskirts of the CBD. The area enjoys a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most desirable places to live, work, study and visit.

The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) plays an essential role in shaping the Organisation's corporate policies and initiatives. Matters considered by ELT relate to high level strategies, major financial decisions, organisational objectives and issues with significant impact on the Organisation's overall development.


The Role
Reporting to the General Manager, Governance & Civic Affairs, the Manager, Strategic Communications & Advocacy, is responsible and accountable for the provision of best practice communication, public relations and community engagement to the Council and the organisation, including the management of communications, publications and media functions. In addition, the Manager is responsible for the Council’s advocacy agenda with State and Federal Government, including the development of partnership with non-government stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Profile Building: Establish and maintain a positive image of the Council within the community, local organisations, the media, State and Federal Governments
• Media Strategy: implement effective media engagement processes, fostering proactive working relationships with media and the provision of timely and accurate responses to all media enquiries.
• Communication Engagement: Establish and implement high quality communication strategies and encourage community participation in the Local Government process.
• Advocacy: develop and maintain strategic relationships with the State and Federal Government, Political Offices and key stakeholders to advance Council’s advocacy strategy
• Publications: Manage the preparation of the Council’s newsletter Look East, Annual Report, and all other Council publications.

About You
To be successful in this position you will bring a proactive mindset, a strong track record of securing high-impact media coverage, and a knack for crafting compelling narratives across owned, earned and paid channels. You are well connected within Australia’s political and media landscape, with established relationships that will drive success in this role.

Skills & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or related field.
• High level of experience in media relations or communications, public relations, and journalism.
• Strong political acumen and experience within government or advocacy spheres.
• Proven track record of high-impact media coverage and relationship-building within the Australian political landscape.
• Ability to handle high pressure situations and communicate publicly with media or large group situations
