Independent Audit Committee Member
Role Description
Expressions of interest are invited to fill a vacancy for an independent member on the Council’s Audit Committee.
Applications are sought from persons with appropriate qualifications and expertise in relevant fields such as business finance, risk management audit, legal or governance.
The Audit Committee is established under the Local Government Act 1999 as an independent advisory committee of the Council. The Committee’s primary role is to assist the Council in the effective conduct of its responsibilities for financial reporting, risk management and maintaining a reliable system of internal controls.
The Audit Committee comprises five members as follows:
• two independent members
• three elected members (one of which is the Mayor)
Independent members are compensated for their time and expertise by payment of an honorarium.

Essential Criteria
- Applicants must be individuals rather than corporations, as the service is that of a personal nature, based on the skill and experience of the individual relevant to the functions of Council’s Audit Committee.
