The story of ‘Rain’: A video series
Follow the unfolding story of Rain, the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters’ fifth Quadrennial Public Artwork by Wills Projects (Laura Wills and Will Chessman), through a series of four videos, released at stages throughout the project.
Captured across the life of the project, this evolving collection shares the thinking, making and collaboration behind the artwork as it moves from concept to installation on Osmond Terrace, Norwood.
The project brings together a wide range of collaborators, including Kaurna consultation, writers, entomologists, lighting designers, glass casting artists, fabricators and engineers, all working together to bring the artwork to life.
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters has also secured a $100,000 grant from CreateSA, provided through the Government of South Australia, to support the commissioning of the City’s fifth Quadrennial Public Artwork.

About the artwork
Rain is inspired by the local rain moth and tells a story about place, life cycles, time and connection to nature. The sculpture features wing-like forms that sit above the ground, layered with patterns drawn from camouflage and lace-like natural detail.
At night, the ground comes alive with light—creating a “galaxy” effect with glowing forms that suggest caterpillars and hidden life beneath the surface, offering a sense of both underground worlds and the night sky.
A supporting fable will also be developed to help share and interpret the artwork with the community.
