Annual salary starts from $89,121.01 (pro-rata for hours worked) + Statutory Superannuation

The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is an inner eastern metropolitan Council, nestled on the outskirts of the CBD. The area enjoys a reputation as one of Adelaide’s most desirable places to live, work, study and visit. From a planning and development perspective, the city has a rich heritage fabric which is balanced with medium and high-density residential growth. There is high demand for residential infill and commercial development, together with strong demand and vibrancy along some of the City’s premier retail strips.

The Role
An exciting opportunity has presented itself for an experienced Policy Planner to join our Urban Planning & Sustainability Unit and contribute towards shaping our vibrant City through high-quality, environmentally sensitive development. The position will support the development of urban planning policy that encompasses economic, social, environmental and physical considerations to result in the creation of an urban environment which aligns with the Council’s Vision for the City.

Reporting to the Manager, Urban Planning & Sustainability, the Policy Planner will be responsible to:
• Contribute to strategic planning functions, including Planning and Design Code Amendments, spatial plans, Local Area Plans.
• Plan, develop and implement community engagement processes to prepare, review and progression of Code Amendments,
• Research and analyse demographic data, development industry trends and community needs to progress planning, development and environmental policies and projects.
• Delivery of accurate, timely and evidence-based advice to the Manager, internal stakeholders, Elected Members and State Government.

About You
To be successful in this position you will be pro-active, outcome driven, emotionally intelligent, take pride in the work you do and possess the following skills and experience:
• Demonstrated experience in the assessment of complex Development Applications and/or in the preparation of Code Amendments
• Comprehensive knowledge of the South Australian planning framework, including the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016 and Regulations
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
• High level of emotional intelligence and ability to deescalate challenging conversations
• A tertiary or post graduate qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related discipline is highly regarded
